My Conversion, June 14

Yes, it's almost that time and I wanted to comment. It's the Jewish holiday Shavuot, a time to celebrate the giving of the Torah as well as an ancient an agricultural holiday. I just learned it is also when King David dies, great-grandson of Ruth, probably the most famous convert to Judaism. It is also one of my Hebrew names (Miriam Ruth), meanings that in a way, deal with giving life. My conversion means so much to me because it gave me life-that's for a long conversation, and maybe even a book!
So at this time, to any of my friends who might think of reading my blog from time to time, some of the values I found in Judaism, that mean so much to me were read in an article:
"Its commandments involving sovereignty, liberties, human rights, the sanctity of life and the search for peace, empathy for the orphan, the stranger and the widow are much more Jewish and meaningful."

Maya Angelou Got It Right

"You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may tread me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise."

From a poem for Hillary Clinton. I promised myself I wouldn't get political on my blog, but I can't help myself this time. The media was definitely not her friend, and it was a shame.

If you reside in the U.S., check out "Bitten" at Steve & Barry's if you haven't yet

One day while at work, I took a quick look at myself, at what I was wearing and realized my outfit, pants (trousers for you folks who think pants are underwear!) and a t-shirt both stylish, cost me just under $20 after taxes ($8.98 each) from the Sarah Jessica Parker Collection at Steve & Barry's. That's unbelieveable.
Ok, the price doesn't include accessories but those are worn over and over again with many other outfits...
Anyway, just under $20! So if you haven't been, definitely check it out! Unfortunately you are unable to purchase off of the website. And definitely try the clothes on because on the hangers, some of the pieces may seem real simple but then you realize this is what a lot of other clothes lack, simplicity, they are just what you are looking for-

Almost a month since an update!

I know all my friends out there have been anxiously awaiting my next post... :)
Just saw Sex and the City, honestly, I don't know what to make of it. It kept my attention but didn't make me laugh like the shows- a little too much drama!

One more thing-this was weird. I'm driving and there is this hearse (sp?) and it was on my a%&, you know. So it finally passes me and I take a look at it-the back bumper has a sticker that says something like, "stop honking, you know this will be you one day." I think it was that person's car!
Well, enough for now from this small part of my world. Peace everyone :)

Ok, a bit of feminism or is it?

I have to say this. Upon walking out of the bookstore the other day, after passing by a cover of Madonna, I said to my niece, "look at how fit she is at 50!" A woman passing us said, " well if you have the money she has, and her ego!" Now what I have a hard time understanding is where is this woman's hostility coming from? Life is what you make of it-just like whatever Madonna has, she has made it. This hits a personal note for me lately because of the whole Hillary Clinton campaign in the U.S. People seem to like it when she seems weak-but when she's strong, people call her a b%#@!* Anyway, to all my sister's out there who don't seem to like to post a comment on my blog :), life IS what you make of it.

"Shine a Light"

Must see-fantastic movie of a Stones concert filmed by director Martin Scorcese-you'll feel like you're at the concert. Saw it at the IMAX theater and I have to say-Mick is still HOT!

Pricing for Ticket to Malaysia

Looking to go visit my friend in Malaysia. Advice from vagabonding.net said to check out bootsnall-I saw a roundtrip ticket in July from NYC to Kuala Lumpur for $955-that is a bargain compared to other prices I have seen so far! I added the website to my links section.

"Stalking the Wild Dik Dik"

Anyone who hasn't read this book, must-especially for all women who are looking for some adventure and thinking about traveling. I myself am in that spot right now-wanting to go away, trying to figure out a way to do so... Working 9-5 and trying to make that change.
In the book she talks about traveling through Africa. The continent hasn't been on the top of my list of places to go but it is now!
